Tom Becnel

With millions of square feet developed from Hawaii to the Gulf Coast, Tom Becnel possesses over 40 years of diverse real estate development, construction, and management experience.  Through strategic acquisitions and innovative development, Tom Becnel has created a successful portfolio of high quality assets including office, residential, condominium and commercial projects.

Beginning his development career in Lafayette, Louisiana, Tom developed single family homes and low-to-mid rise office buildings, personally managing them during his time of ownership. He moved on to low rise condos and even a 602-room hotel, complete with an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones golf course in Hawaii. Throughout the 70s, 80s, and early 90s, he developed 18 projects there. Recognizing the potential for growth, Tom set his sights on development in Destin, Florida. Shoreline Towers, an 84-unit high-rise condominium in the center of Destin, FL in the desirable Holiday Isle neighborhood.  The condominium offered a private beach with direct views of the Gulf of Mexico as well as many other amenities. The 90’s brought expansion to Naples, Florida with the development of Baypoint, a high rise luxury condo.

In the early 2000’s more development surfaced in the Northwest Florida area, along the beaches of the Emerald Coast. A multitude of projects rose along the shoreline between Destin and Miramar Beach Florida, to include: One Beach Club Drive, Pine Ridge Villas, The Palms of Destin, Silver Shells Beach Resort and Spa, and Silver Beach Towers.

In 2010, Tom Becnel purchased Sandestin® Golf and Beach Resort, a 2,400-acre resort in Miramar Beach, FL. His team manages over 1,000 rental units, 4 championship golf courses, award-winning tennis courts, full-service marina (with a current expansion project), fitness center, 85,000 sf of meeting/conference space, club operations, restaurants, retail stores and more. Since the purchase of the resort, Tom has worked on projects within the gates of Sandestin® Golf and Beach Resort, to include two major developments in the vacation rental and hotel space. Osprey Pointe, opened in 2020, is a 75-unit mid-rise condominium located on the shores of the Choctawhatchee Bay. Osprey Pointe boasts distinguished interior features and thoughtful design for families seeking vacation rental accommodations. Hotel Effie Sandestin® opened in 2021. A 250-room luxury hotel, Effie features ample conference space, a signature restaurant led by celebrity chef Hugh Acheson, a luxury spa, fitness center and the only hotel rooftop pool and lounge in the area. Effie Burns, Grandmother to owner and developer Tom Becnel, is the namesake on which the hotel was founded.
